I invite you to visit my
business web site at www.riversiderealty.org click on community info and other
regional info to find out what the 10 towns of the Western Mountains of Maine
have to offer and are all about.

Lets start with location. The towns are Andover, Byron, Canton, Carthage, Dixfield,
Hanover, Mexico, Peru, Roxbury and Rumford. Rumford being the biggest of the
towns and known for its paper mill, which was once the largest mill in the world under
one roof and initially named Oxford Paper Company. Rumford was the point of destination
from the late 1890's to 1960's. The mill had exchanged ownership several times to Ethyl
Corporation, Boise Cascade, Mead, and now New Page. The entire area went through some
very difficult times commencing in the late 70's through the 90's and even up until after
9/11. Wood manufacturing mills of all sort and shoe shops started closing in the late 70's
and continued through the end of the 80's when our government made provision for tax
breaks if company's went over seas to help other countries get on their feet. This was done
without regard to the consequences it was going to have, not only the towns of the Western
Mountains of Maine, but all U.S. towns! Anyway, with the unfortate event of 9/11 the Western
Mountains of Maine started to see an interest from investors from the metropolitan areas of
cities like New York, Boston and other areas. After, all we boast having the largest falls this side
of Niagra Falls called Rumford Falls. Very picturesque as it cascades down around and through
Rumford's down town shopping area, through Mexico then Dixfield/Peru and Canton. Mill towns yes, but situated in heart of several prestine lakes and ponds for all 4 seasons enjoyment, plus in the heart of famous Ski resorts being only 24 miles North of Sunday River, 50 miles Southwest of Sugarloaf and Carrabasset ski mountains, plus Rumford has the famous "Black Mountain of Maine down hill and cross country ski area where the Junior Olympics are held quite often! Coos Canyon in Byron has gold mining in the small river there. There are hiking trails, state of the art snowmobile trails, great woods for hunting and all around safe and friendly
area's to visit. Some of the friendliest folks waiting here in the towns of the Western Mountains of Maine.

Again, for more information visit my web site at www.riversiderealty.org and www.rivervalleychamber.com . Until later I look forward to hearing from you!

Roger W.
